Matthew Hummer is a Licensed Independent Marriage and Family Therapist with over 20 years of experience who provides compassionate, evidence-based care to children, adolescents, adults, couples, and families. He specializes in couples and family therapy, including premarital counseling, post-separation/divorce family dynamics, infidelity, and families coping with severe mental illness. Additionally, Matthew provides parent coaching, helping parents create healthier and more effective family environments with better communication, boundaries, and conflict-resolution skills. Along with couples, families, and parents, Matthew works individually with clients aged 11 and up who are struggling with various problems including mood and anxiety disorders, ADHD and other disruptive behavior problems, trauma, addiction, and risky behaviors. Matthew’s therapeutic approach is grounded in a variety of evidence-based modalities, including Integrative Systemic Therapy, Structural Family Therapy, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), and Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT). His philosophy of care is rooted in trauma-informed, client-centered principles, emphasizing emotional safety, collaboration, and respect for each client’s lived experience. He strives to help clients build insight, resilience, and the practical tools they need to solve their own problems and create lasting change.

Matthew earned a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology from the University of Dayton and a Masters of Science in Marriage and Family Therapy from The Family Institute at Northwestern University. His clinical background spans a range of settings, including adolescent residential treatment centers, hospitals, group therapy programs, in-home services, crisis intervention, and outpatient mental health clinics. This diverse experience allows Matthew to bring a comprehensive and flexible approach to care. Matthew also provides supervision to MFT students and dependent licensees. In his free time, Matthew enjoys skiing, playing sand volleyball and soccer, and spending time with his wife and kids.
